Confluence to go national

- St Michael’s to invite more schools to contests next year

Siliguri, Nov.12: Next year’s Confluence will be a national level inter-school competition as St. Michael’s School, Siliguri, is trying to bring in institutions from New Delhi, Calcutta and Guwahati to participate in the event.

“We have just completed the fifth edition of Confluence with schools from Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri and Jalpaiguri. Next year, we plan to make it bigger and better by inviting schools from Calcutta, Delhi and Guwahati along with institutions in north Bengal,” Robin Chakravarti, the vice-principal of St Michael’s School, said today.

The school has been organising Confluence in association with The Telegraph since 2008. Schools from across Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts participate in the event that comprises contests in spelling bee, debate, general quiz and sports quiz. All the contests this year were conducted by Parnab Mukherjee, a quiz master and a moderator.

St. Michael’s School has been chosen among the top five schools in Bengal by The Telegraph In Schools (TTIS) in the category of co-curricular activities for five consecutive years.

“The TTIS awards certificates of honour to top five schools in the state for categories like co-curricular activities and academics every year. We have received the certificates of honour for co-curricular activities for five consecutive years and for academics for two years. Keeping pace with improvement of education in our institution, we are focusing on co-curricular activities as well. Confluence is one such important activity which we plan to develop and improve in the coming years,” said Chakravarti.

The school also plans to publish a quiz book titled “1,000 Questions by Parnab” in 2013.

“We have a record of questions asked by Parnab during the quiz contests of Confluence in the past five years. We plan to publish a quiz book with the questions next year. The book will be distributed among participating schools in Confluence 2013,” said Chakravarti.
