2 killed in Kokrajhar violence

Kokrajhar, Nov. 10: Violence resurfaced in Kokrajhar today with two persons being killed in two separate incidents in the district.

While a resident of Onthaibari village under Kokrajhar police station was attacked with sharp weapons and killed at Bedlangmari, unidentified gunmen shot dead a farmer at 2 number Bajugaon village in the districtís Gossaigaon subdivision.

The Onthaibari villager was on his way back from Kokrajhar town when he was attacked while the farmer was fired upon while he was harvesting paddy with another farmer and died on the way to hospital.

The other farmer, however, managed to escape.

There was also an unconfirmed report about two Maktaigaon villagers going missing after they went fishing.

Sources said the Onthaibari villagerís grandfather had been killed during the July violence.

Police said the farmer shot dead today had returned to his village around 20 days ago after staying in a relief camp at Failaguri for three months.

Renewed tension has gripped the area and the district with Onthaibari residents fleeing the village, fearing the onset of another bout of violence and arson.

Some citizens here blamed the district administration for these incidents. They alleged that insufficient security measures taken before rehabilitating these people had resulted in todayís deaths.
