Shankar triumph

Guwahati, Nov. 7: Shrimanta Shankar Academy registered a seven-wicket win over Faculty HS School in the inaugural match of the 3rd Sitaram Agarwala under-17 inter-school cricket tournament organised by Bud Cricket Club at Judges Field here today.

Put in to bat, the Faculty innings folded at 100 in 25.4 overs. Amber Borah was the highest scorer for Faculty with 16 runs from 44 balls while Kunal Sarma scored 11 off 22 deliveries.

For Shankar Academy, Debasish Saikia was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped five wickets and conceded just 14 in his six overs. He was supported by Abhilash Goswami and Bishal Goswami who took two wickets each.

In reply, Shankar achieved the target in just 14.2 overs, posting 105 for the loss of three wickets. Man of the Match Debasish Saikia contributed handsomely with the bat as well, piling up a quickfire 62 in just 43 deliveries. Krishnav Kalita and Tanuj Kalita scored 13 and 12 respectively for Shankar.

For Faculty, Neeraj Das picked up a wicket for seven runs in his two overs while Chiranjib Borah bagged one for 23 runs in four overs. The remainder of the bowlers, however, failed to make an impact.

Tomorrow, Modern English School will take on South Point School.

District TT: Guwahati and Duliajan sealed a berth in the finals of the womenís category of the 60th Sitaram Agarwala Stag inter-district table tennis championship at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday. The Guwahati women got the better of Nowgong while Duliajan defeated Sivasagar. In the menís section, Sivasagar defeated Dibrugarh for a place in the final.
