Assam go down


Guwahati, Oct. 25: Assam went down to Bengal by 38 runs in a Vinoo Mankad Trophy East Zone U-19 one-day match at Tinsukia DSA Stadium yesterday.

Bengal, who opted to bat first, posted 229 for eight in 50 overs. V.B. Singh top-scored with 77, while R.A. Das chipped in with 40 runs.

For Assam, Mantu Das picked up five wickets for 45 runs.

In reply, Assam could manage only 191 for nine in 49.4 overs, with Wasiqur Rahman scoring 49 off 64 balls, while Sajid Khan compiled 34.

A.R. Singh was the wrecker-in-chief for Bengal, as he took four wickets for just 24 runs.

Tourney: Bud Cricket Club will organise the 3rd Sitaram Agarwala Under-17 inter-school cricket tournament from November 7 to 16 at Judges Field here.

Kickboxing squad: The Assam Kickboxing Association has announced a 81-member team for the 1st IAKO National Inter-college Kickboxing Championship to be held here in November.
