| Milan Singh scored the winner |
Calcutta: Pailan Arrows registered their second successive victory of the I-League when they edged past Air India 2-1 at the Salt Lake Stadium on Thursday.
Captain Milan Singh scored the winner in the 67th minute after striker Holicharan Narzary gave Arrows the lead in the first half. Nigerian striker Henry Ezeh had restored parity for the airmen in the 66th minute.
The first 30 minutes did not yield any spectacular moves as both the teams seemed to play safe.
With Air India resorting to only one foreign striker in Henry Ezeh, the attacks were few and far between.
It was in the 42nd minute that Narzary gave Arrows the lead.
Taking control of midfielder Rajinder Kumar’s cross, Narzary rounded off his marker Gagandeep Singh to shoot a right-foooter.
Arrows started the second session with more positive intent. Both Narzary and Alwyn George kept the Air India defence under pressure with their beautiful runs.
However, Air India scored in the 67th minute on the counter. Nigerian Henry nodded home a nice chip from compatriot Elijah Junior, who came in as a 59th minute substitute.
Air India defender Prem Kumar fouled Alwyn George in the box. Milan calmly stepped up to convert from the spot.
