Life for 6 for murder of MLA brother

Bokaro, Sept. 28: Six persons guilty of the murder of Dumri MLA Jagannath Mahto’s younger brother Ganesh in 2009 were today sentenced to life imprisonment by principal, session and district judge of Bokaro G.K. Chowdhury.

The judge gave the sentence this afternoon, a day after he pronounced all the six — Krishna Prasad Mahto, main conspirator and former business partner of the deceased, contract killer Madan Turi and his associate Mohammad Jafir Ansari, Usman Ansari, Shafik Ansari and Khurshid Ansari — guilty.

Special prosecutor S.N. Dey repeatedly pleaded for capital punishment for the six criminals, booked in the case (ST 92/10) under Sections 302, 302/34 and 120(B) of the IPC

Dey added that the punishment should serve as an eye-opener for the society so than no one can dare to commit such a heinous crime in future.

Ganesh was shot dead at his Bhandaridah residence in Chandrapura, Bokaro, on August 27, 2009.

Another accused named in the case, Mukesh Mahto, is however at large.

Soon after the judgment, the six criminals who were brought to the court were sent to Chas jail. Defendant lawyer Kameshwar Jha said he would appeal against the judgment in the high court.
