Trailer knocks down pole

Taratala Road was closed for over 45 minutes from 8.15pm on Monday after a trailer got tangled in overhead wires on Brace Bridge and caused a lamp post to topple on the road, blocking it. As snaking queues of vehicles formed on both flanks, towing vehicles took some time reaching the spot. Till 9pm, traffic had to be diverted through alternative routes.

Suicides: A 25-year hardware engineer was found hanging from the ceiling at his home in Salt Lake’s Sukantanagar on Sunday night. Deepak Kumar hailed from Ranchi in Jharkhand and had joined a private firm a year back. No suicide note was found. Preliminary investigation suggests he was recently jilted, police said. 64-year-old man was found hanging from the ceiling of his house on Brahmapur Road, Bansdroni, on Monday morning. Asim Bose was a retired state government employee. A suicide note was found.

Arrested: A youth was arrested from Varanasi on Monday afternoon for a burglary in Mangoe Lane last month. Gaurav Yadav, 20, had allegedly stolen Rs 3.3 crore from a collection agency run by Manoj Bothra. Bothra lodged a complaint with Hare Street police station, after which the detective department had taken up the case.

Accident: A taxi knocked down a pedestrian at the Moulali crossing on Monday afternoon. Nirmal Maal, 21, was taken to hospital with fractures. The taxi driver fled.
