Man held for pool car molest

A 38-year-old father of a kindergarten student was arrested on Friday for allegedly harassing a Class VII girl of the same school in the pool car in which he accompanied his daughter.

The man had allegedly molested the 11-year-old girl a week back in the backseat of the Tata Cruiser in which she goes to school.

“A week back, my daughter told me that Manav Shaw would touch her from behind. This continued for two or three days,” said the mother of the Class VII girl. “He would sit in the backseat with my daughter with his daughter in between,” said the homemaker.

The woman said she had immediately instructed her daughter to ask the driver to change Shaw’s seat. “I had also told my daughter to look for a chance to detain Shaw under some pretext. She got the chance today,” the woman said.

On Friday, the woman said, the pool car reached late and her daughter, according to school rules, was not allowed in. “She borrowed Shaw’s phone to call me up, asking me to take her back home.”

The woman said she spoke to Shaw and asked him to wait till she reached. She went there in 30 minutes and accosted him. “He denied everything and an altercation followed,” the woman said. “There were some cops nearby who intervened and, upon hearing what had happened, took him away in a van. I lodged a diary with Gariahat police station.”

“We have slapped Section 354 IPC on him for molesting a woman. He was also accused of pulling the girl by the hand three days back,” said Pallab Kanti Ghosh, the joint commissioner of police (crime).

Shaw was produced in Alipore court and granted bail.
