Footballers, fencers feted

Imphal, Aug. 30: The United Progressive Adults Association (UPAA) feted their champion football team as well as medal-winning fencers on Kiyamgei Ideal High School campus.

The UPAA football team emerged winners of the Imphal East district league, elevating them to the super division from next season and also qualified for the C.C. Meet Football, which will be held later this year.

UPAA fencers, on the other hand, have claimed 11 gold, four silver, three bronze medals in the 14th sub-junior boys and girls and 9th cadet national championship held at Gwalior.

Fencer S. Heron Devi got four gold medals from sub-junior girls’ and cadet events, emerging as the best fencer of the meet.

Apart from her, other gold medallists were S. Chinglembi, Th. Ichan (with two gold medals each), S. Chingkheinganbi, Th. Puspa Devi and O. Jesse, who also won a bronze.

Silver medallists included Chingkheihunbi, S. Ningthou Singh, S. Langam Singh and S. Chingkheinganbi Devi. H. Linthoi won bronze.
