Maharana make merry, SAI held

Guwahati, July 25: Maharana Athletic Club thrashed Jewel Star Club 11-1 and Rajbari Athletic Club held Sports Authority of India (SAI) SC to a 2-2 draw in two matches played simultaneously on adjacent turf on the inaugural day of the Green Valley Travels Pvt Ltd Jibeswar Goswami first division football league of the Guwahati Sports Association at Nehru Stadium here today.

The highlights of the one-sided Maharana-Jewel Star match were hattricks by midfielder Zwangsar Daimary and striker Willson Deori.

On the second turf, SAI boys started aggressively and created a couple of openings for themselves only to squander them because of poor finishing.

Lawn bowls: Kamaleswar Kalita, Dipankar Sarma and Pabit Narzary have qualified for Group A menís league and Jeuti Deuri, Ranjumoni Devi Bora and Bima Bora qualified for Group A womenís league, finishing in the top three in menís and womenís Group B league of the 4th All-Assam Lawn Bowls Championship at Sarusajai Sports Complex here.
