Valley crash

Srinagar, July 11: A bus carrying students of Iqra Educational Institute for a picnic plunged into a gorge in Baramulla on Wednesday, killing a teacher, a student and the driver.

Forty-three persons were hospitalised. Jehangir Ahmad, 25, and Owais Wani, 13, were declared dead on arrival. The driver, Akhtar, also succumbed to injuries later.

Officer trap

New Delhi (PTI): A lieutenant colonel has been charged for establishing unauthorised contact on Facebook with a Bangladeshi woman, suspected to be an ISI agent who had allegedly honeytrapped another Indian officer in Dhaka last year. The officer, posted in Rajasthan, will face a court of inquiry, army sources said on Wednesday.

Lover rage

New Delhi (PTI): A 25-year-old engineer, peeved at his senior’s interference in his relationship with a girl, allegedly killed the colleague on Saturday night by ramming his car into him and then burnt his body. Sandeep and two associates have been arrested for the murder of Joginder Sharma, whose body was found on Sunday. Sandeep has confessed to the crime, police said.

Stab spree

Indore (PTI): Two miscreants, riding a bike and apparently intoxicated, stabbed seven persons on Tuesday in Indore’s Khajrana area. The culprits, Ahsan and Jakir, are absconding.

Jailed MP

Lucknow (PTI): Police are investigating reports that jailed Samajwadi MP Vijay Mishra allegedly visited a temple without court’s permission during his stay at a hospital. Mishra, arrested last year, was also spotted at a lunch hosted for UPA Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee on July 3.

Car robbery

New Delhi (PTI): Two pilgrims returning from Amarnath were robbed of their car at gunpoint on a Punjab highway on Sunday night. Delhi residents Sanjit Singh and Raj Singh were waylaid by the robbers who came in an SUV. They allegedly tied the victims with a tree and sped away with their Toyota car.
