Major fire in Maharashtra secretariat

Mumbai, Jun 21 (PTI): Fire fighters are battling a major blaze at the Mantralaya building, which houses the Maharashtra Government’s secretariat.

The fire broke out in forest minister Babanrao Pachpute’s office on the fourth floor and had spread upwards to the chief minister’s office on the sixth floor. According to TV reports twenty-five fire engines are fighting the fire right now.

So far, there are no reports of any casualties, fire officials said.

Maharashtra Chief Secretary has ordered immediate evacuation of the entire building, sources said.

The smoke from the blaze on the fourth floor has engulfed two upper floors of the building.

Thousands of officials were seen standing outside as fire fighters battled the blaze, which was suspected to have been caused by a short-circuit.
