Shillong, June 16: The night road blockade called by the ANVC (B), the breakaway faction of the A’chik National Volunteer Council (ANVC), from Monday onwards has been rescheduled from 10pm to 5am. Earlier it was slated to begin at 8pm and end at 6am.
Apart from the night road blockade, the second phase of the agitation would also constitute a one-hour shutter-down strike from noon till 1pm all over Garo hills.
The one-hour shutter-down strike has been observed since the beginning of this week. The fresh agitation has been called as the 24 legislators from Garo hills did not respond to the ultimatum given by the ANVC (B) to redress people’s woes, especially power and water deficiency.
“Some legislators are busy in the presidential race, some in political events and others busy doing nothing. Therefore, we suggest for mass upheaval of the people for regaining the power of true democracy for change in society,” ANVC (B) chairman Rimpu N. Marak said.
