Bribe by draft

Virudhunagar, June 16 (PTI): A man, angry at a delay in getting a birth certificate, has sent a bribe of Rs 100 by demand draft to the municipal authorities in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar.

The municipality commissioner reprimanded the officials concerned after receiving the draft from Palanisamy and asked them to deliver the birth certificate to the applicant’s home. An official inquiry has been ordered by the municipal administration department.

Army toy

Jammu (PTI): A toy model of a remotely piloted vehicle crashed into a field on Friday, triggering panic in Akhnoor of Jammu and Kashmir. Some children playing in the field first noticed it. Investigations have revealed that the device belonged to the army.

Vehicle theft

New Delhi (PTI): A retired army officer’s son was arrested on Friday for stealing an SUV that he took out from a car showroom for a test ride on May 30, police said. Rahul allegedly dropped off the showroom employee near a flyover after making some excuse and fled with the car. Later he took the car to his home and told his father that it was a birthday gift for him.

Heroin seized

Gurdaspur (PTI): Border Security Force personnel recovered 17kg of heroin worth Rs 85 crore from near the Indo-Pak border in Gurdaspur on Saturday. BSF jawans fired at some people who were trying to sneak into India from Pakistan. They left behind 17 packets of heroin while fleeing.

Graft arrest

Tirunelveli (PTI): A clerk of a local court has been arrested after the judicial magistrate caught him taking a bribe of Rs 20 for providing a copy of a chargesheet, police said.

Vadodara (PTI): Gir National Park in Junagadh district will remain closed for tourists for four months from Saturday because of the breeding season of Asiatic lions.
