SAI fetch four gold

Imphal, June 5: SAI RC swung their blades to glory, fetching four gold medals on the opening day of the 8th Governorís Cup State-Level Fencing Championship, 2012 at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium.

SAI RC fencers landed their first gold with L. Samshakhi Devi beating M. Shandhyarani Devi of Miisikhol by 15-10 points.

In the womenís sabre individual event, W. Reni Devi of SAI RC humbled compatriot P. Nandini Devi by 15-6 points for the gold and silver medals.

A. Shaolin Singh delivered the third gold for SAI RC beating S. Roshan Singh of United Progressive Adult Association by 15-9 points.

N. Solik Singh fetched the fourth gold for SAI in the menís sabre event beating compatriot N. Chingsomba Singh 15-12 points.

Body-building: Body-builder N. London Singh bagged a silver medal for India in the junior open category of Mister World Body-Building Championship in Moscow from 1-3.

State chess

Top seed Kh Sanjay Singh shared the lead with 11 other players collecting two points each in the 22nd Kh Anou Singh Memorial State Open Chess Tournament at Kwakeithel. Sanjoy Singh made further inroads in the second round against his opponent S. Basanta to make the latter surrender in the 55th move to gain full points. On another table, rated player Premjit Singh overcame Premchand Singh in 72nd move while Dhanabir Singh beat Ojit Singh to collect maximum points.

Tennis: The Manipur Tennis Association will be holding a 10-day tennis coaching programme for U-10, U-12 and U-14 boys and girls at the Officers Club, Lamphelpat from June 15-24.
