Beijing, June 4 (PTI): China has advised its citizens to be careful while travelling to India citing widespread protests over the rise in petroleum prices.
The advisory, posted on the Chinese foreign ministry website and its embassy in New Delhi, has warned of the travel disruptions. The note comes weeks after the Indian embassy here had earlier cautioned traders from doing business in the Yiwu commodity hub in view of kidnappings of its citizens by local suppliers to settle trade disputes.
Mumbai: A 16-year-year girl from Bengal drowned in her school’s swimming pool near Pune on Sunday. Police said that Class X student Shibani Subroto Sen developed cramps in her legs while swimming.
Thrissur (PTI): A vigilance court has dismissed a petition filed against V.S. Achuthanandan alleging irregularities in the appointment of the chief executive of an IT enclave, Infopark, in Kochi, during his tenure as the chief minister. The plea alleged that VS had taken illegal favours from Jijo Joseph who got the job instead of another deserving candidate.
New Delhi (PTI): A Delhi court has rebuked a man for his reluctance to pay maintenance to his ailing mother, terming his attitude “inhuman and shameful”. The judge directed the man to pay Rs 800 per month.
Kanpur (PTI): The CBI on Monday arrested the income tax commissioner (investigations) of Kanpur range, Kunal Singh, and the managing director of realty firm Eldeco, Pankaj Bajaj, in connection with a graft case. The firm is under the scanner for alleged tax evasions. Three other tax officials and a chartered accountant were also arrested, sources said.
Coimbatore (PTI): A gunpowder godown in Tamil Nadu was caught in a fire and consequently, an explosion, on Monday morning. There were no casualties. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, police said.
