Guwahati, May 27: St Francis Sr Secondary School and DAV High School marched into the quarter-finals of the ongoing 8th Dhan Sena Sinha inter-school prizemoney cricket tournament under way at Latasil ground here.
In the pre-quarter encounters today, St Francis got the better of Dreamland School by five wickets while DAV tamed Kamakhya Hindi High School by 57 runs.
In the morning match, Dreamland elected to bat and were restricted to 119 for eight in 20 overs and St Francis achieved the target losing five wickets in 19.2 overs.
Mahbubul Haque (32), Biswajit Choudhury (27) and Mrinjul Dutta (14) were the notable scorers for Dreamland as Mauzzam Ansari of St Francis hauled four for 17 and Arun Sarsaria picked up two for 14.
Ansari also topscored for St Francis with 58 to be later adjudged the Man of the Match and Ishwar Yadav (28) and Suraj Gupta (19 not out) were the other main scorers for the side. Abir Chakraborty of Dreamland notched up four wickets for 17 runs.
In the other match, Kamakhya School won the toss and put DAV School to bat. DAV scored 116 for four in 15 overs and the Kamakhya boys were skittled out for 59 in 13.4 overs.
Rahul Basfore topscored for DAV with 56 and Raju Yadav and Sanjay Kumar Rai chipped in with useful knocks of 25 and 12 respectively. Mayank Singh and Mohidul Islam of Kamakhya School picked up a wicket each.
Hyder Ali and Wasim Khan scored 11 each to be the only Kamakhya batsmen to score in double figures. Manoj Kumar Roy, Kamakhya Pajiyar, Sanjar Kumar and Binod Basfore of DAV bagged two wickets each.
Rahul Basfore was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Tomorrow, Ulubari High School will play LOG Hindi High School and Gurukul Grammar Sr Secondary School lock horns with Bright Future English School in two pre-quarterfinal matches.
