Sugar output fall fear

Mumbai, April 15: The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) has said the production of sugar will fall 9.8 per cent in this fiscal because of lower availability of sugarcane. The CMIE, which has forecast 18 per cent growth in sugar production in fiscal 2012, observed that the fall was because of a decline in the area under sugarcane production.

ATF price

New Delhi, April 15: State-owned oil companies have reduced jet fuel prices by a marginal Rs 170 per kilolitre (kl). The price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), or jet fuel, in Delhi was reduced by Rs 169.3 per kl, or 0.25 per cent, to Rs 67,631 with effect from midnight tonight, Indian Oil Corporation said.

Trade policy

New Delhi, April 15: The foreign trade policy, to be unveiled next month, will focus on addressing India’s trade deficit, which ballooned to $185 billion in 2011-12, exerting pressure on the country’s current account deficit.

FII inflows

New Delhi, April 15: Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) made a net investment of Rs 322 crore in the equity market up to April 13, according to Sebi data. Net inflows stood at around Rs 44,000 crore during the January-March period of 2012.

Coal India

New Delhi, April 15: UK-based hedge fund TCI has said it will initiate a legal action against state-run Coal India (CIL) within a week for failing to protect the interest of minority shareholders.
