Athgarh Congress candidate

Bhubaneswar: Congress leader Suresh Mohapatra has been chosen as the party’s candidate for the Athgarh Assembly constituency. Bypoll to the constituency will be held on March 18. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik has on Monday announced that Ranendra Pratap Swain will be the BJD candidate for the constituency. Mohapatra had earlier contested from the constituency.

Child health

Bhubaneswar: The State Child Health Resource Centre on Tuesday organised the one-day State Child Health Conclave. Around 60 participants from different directorates, including neonatologists, child health specialists, and programme officers looking after child health component of State Child Health Division of National Rural Health Mission, took part in the event. The theme for this year’s event was “Better Neonatal Care is Better Future”. The event was inaugurated by B.K. Mishra, special secretary, (tech) health and family welfare department. The technical sessions covered health complications of newborns and the state's initiatives on neonatal care.

OTDC package

Bhubaneswar: To facilitate tourists to witness the dance and music festival at Konark Natya Mandap and to visit Konark on a half-day sightseeing tour, the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation has introduced a special package tour programme which will start everyday at 2.30pm from Panthanivas in Bhubaneswar. The tour will end at 10.45pm on the same day. In this package tour, tourists will be able to see the event and arrange a visit to the Konark Sun Temple. The Odisha Tourism Development Corporationwill provide air-conditioned transport, snacks and dinner. The package shall be operational subject to availability of a minimum of eight persons. The coast of the package cost has been kept at Rs 490 each person.

One dead

Kendrapara: Police on Tuesday retrieved the charred skeletal remains of a woman from her rented house at Garapur in this district headquarters township. The victim, Sony Tripathy, 32, was burnt to death. The house where she was living alone was completely gutted down. “We suspect a foul play. Our preliminary findings say that it was not an accidental fire. The house might have been set on fire to kill the woman who was separated from her husband,” said Nrusingha Charan Swain, sub-divisional police officer, Kendrapara.

New trains

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Railways have introduced a new train, the Howrah-Mysore-Howrah Weekly Superfast Express, which will start its journey from Howrah from 24 February. A new weekly express between Shalimar and Secunderabad, the Santragachhi-Mangaluru-Santragachhi Weekly Superfast Express, will also commence its journey from Mangaluru from 25 February. Besides other stoppages, both the trains will stop in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
