Missing students found in Kulpi

Six boys and girls, aged between 13 and 15 years, who had been missing since leaving home for private tuitions in Mukundapur on Thursday, were found in Kulpi in South 24-Parganas on Friday morning. Police said the children had planned to flee to Diamond Harbour but took a wrong train and got down at Karanjali station in Kulpi. Their parents had lodged a complaint with Purba Jadavpur police station on Thursday night.

Fraud charge

Ganesh Basu, 50, a resident of DA block in Salt Lake, was arrested on Friday for allegedly duping several persons in and around the township of around Rs 30 lakh. Police said Basu used to take money from individuals, promising them railway jobs. When no one got a job even after a year, the victims lodged a complaint with Bidhannagar North police station on Thursday.

Beaten to death

Manirul Sareng, 26, a resident of Alipukur Mandalpara in Uluberia, was beaten to death by a mob after he attacked his uncle Rabial Sareng, 85, with a knife, injuring him seriously. Rabial was admitted to SSKM Hospital in a critical condition. Manirul was declared dead at Uluberia Sub-divisional Hospital.

Extortionist held

Officers of Bidhannagar North police station arrested Gourab Bhattacharjee, alias Bunty, on Thursday night on charges of extortion and found a country-made gun and a bullet in his possession. Police said Gourab, a resident of Jagatpur in Baguiati, was involved in the murder of realtor Sushil Saha in 2005.

Negligence cry

Relatives of a two-day-old boy, who died at MR Bangur Hospital on Friday, agitated in front of the office of the hospital superintendent, accusing the authorities of negligence. The baby was born to Jhuma Dandapat of Thakurpukur on Tuesday and declared dead on Friday.


A 45-year-old conductor of a private bus on route 45A died on Friday morning after he fell off the vehicle in front of Modern High School on Syed Amir Ali Avenue. olice said Tarapada Dutta fell while the bus was moving towards Park Circus around 6.30am. He was taken to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, where he died.

Gold chain

Shelly Samaddar, 30, a resident of Kalyani in North 24-Parganas, who boarded a train at Tollygunge Metro station at 9am on Friday, could not find her gold chain after getting off at Jatin Das Park station. Samaddar lodged a complaint with Regent Park police station.

Trio in net

Dipanjan Roy, a cyber café owner from Survey Park in Santoshpur, dog trainer Tanmoy Dutta and their friend Santosh Sharma were arrested late on Thursday for allegedly assaulting police and causing pollution by dumping a dog’s body in a canal near Mandalpara in Garfa.


A fire broke out in a scrap iron and plastic godown on Kendua Main Road in Patuli on Friday morning. Two tenders put out the fire in 30 minutes.
