India take on Zambia

Margao: Without star strikers Sunil Chetri and Jeje Lalpekhlua, it will be a test of character for India when they take on Zambia in an international friendly on Monday.

The strikers are away for trials at Scottish club Rangers. But India coach Savio Medeira felt that it is a perfect opportunity for others to prove themselves.

“It’s true the duo has brought us many laurels in the recent past. But this is a great opportunity for the others to prove themselves,” said Medeira.

The match will also serve as a preparation for the India team ahead of the SAFF Championship, which begins in the capital from Friday.

“The match is very important for us. It will help us to gauge our performance. It will be a learning experience for the boys ahead of the SAFF Championship,” he said.
