10 hurt in party clash

Cooch Behar, Nov. 21: At least 10 persons were injured in a clash between Trinamul Congress and CPM supporters at Chilkirhat this evening.

Sources said while Trinamul brought out a rally at Chilkirhat to protest the recent attacks on party workers in south Bengal by Maoists, the CPM was organising a campaign in the same area for a convention next week. Trinamul supporters alleged that the CPM workers had attacked their rally and injured at least four-five party supporters. The CPM leaders, however, said Trinamul workers had attacked them and six of their supporters were hurt.

Boy dies

Siliguri: A two-year-old boy died after he was allegedly beaten up by his mother at Sukantanagar on Monday. Dulal Dutta, the SMC councillor of ward-38, said the mother had slapped on the boy’s back after which he lost consciousness. He was taken to the district hospital where the doctors declared him dead. No police complaint has been lodged.

Wife killed

Malda: A man allegedly killed his wife at Dakshin Dabgramhat in Harishchandrapur on Sunday night. Police said Fulbar Bibi, 32, died after her husband Md Israil had fired at her and hacked her with a sickle. Police said Israil, a history sheeter, had come to know that his wife was assisting the police who were planning to arrest him. Israil took Fulbar in a deserted place and killed her.

‘Poison’ death

Malda: A 10-year-old boy was allegedly poisoned to death in Omartola village near Baisnabnagar on Sunday. Police said Abul Kalam Azad’s father had filed a complaint alleging that Jahanara, the boy’s aunt, had poisoned him.

Road mishap

Alipurduar: Harendranath Burman, 58, a resident of Pachkelguri near here, was run over by a bus on Monday. Police said Burman was crossing the Alipurduar-Sonapur state highway when the vehicle knocked him down. After the mishap, local people ransacked the bus. The driver managed to escape.
