Leader hacked

Hyderabad, March 27 (PTI): TRS polit bureau member and former Maoist Sambashivudu was hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Andhra Pradesh’s Nalgonda district on Saturday night, police said.

Sambashivudu, 45, was killed near Gokaram village in Nalgonda by about 10-15 assailants using sickles and swords. He died while being taken to Hyderabad for treatment.

Crash payout

New Delhi (PTI): A tribunal has reduced by half a Rs 5 lakh-compensation to the family of a youth who died after his motorcycle hit a bus in November 2006. The tribunal held the victim partly responsible as he was driving the bike at high speed without a helmet.

Jail death

New Delhi (PTI): The National Human Rights Commission has asked the Bihar government to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the family of a man who had died in Bhagalpur jail. Ram Ayodhya Prasad, 40, was lodged in the prison since August 2005 and died in January 2009. The inquiry magistrate had concluded he died of a lung disease.

Minors raped

Lucknow (PTI): Two minor girls were allegedly raped in two separate incidents in Uttar Pradesh, police said. A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Maharajganj and a14-year-old girl was gang raped by four men in Pratapgarh on Friday, the police said.

Dowry arrest

Ghaziabad (PTI): A fast-track court in Ghaziabad has sentenced the husband and in-laws of a woman to 10 years rigorous imprisonment in a dowry death case. A fine of Rs 25,000 has also been slapped on each accused.

Dutt warrant

Mau (PTI): A local court in Uttar Pradesh has issued a bailable warrant against actor Sanjay Dutt for allegedly violating the model code of conduct by making communal remarks in an election rally during 2009 Lok Sabha polls.
