Appointment of chairpersons

bhubaneswar: BJD senior leader Pyari Mohan Mohapatra on Suday said the appointment of chairpersons of various corporations would be held before Durga Puja. The chief minister may announce the names of chairpersons before Dussehra. Those who are eligible and have loyalty to the party will be given preference,” said Mohapatra. ources said the party has already finalised the corporation names. The race among the aspirants to be the chairperson of the corporations has begun. BJD is planning to quell the dissention growing in the party by announcing the names of the chairpersons. Those who have lost the elections are likely to be rehabilitated.

Special trains

Bhubaneswar: In view of the demands from the passengers and to avoid rush in regular trains, East Coast Railway has decided to run a pair of weekly Puja special trains to Pune from Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad and from Howrah from Puri. The Bhubaneswar-Pune-Bhubaneswar weekly will run on every Tuesday from Bhubaneswar and on every Thursday from Pune from October 12 to November 25.

Guru Pradhan

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday announced an assistance of Rs.1 lakh for treatment of ailing Odissi Guru Gangadhar Pradhan. Patnaik visited the Apollo hospital where Pradhan has been lying comatose since October 6 and inquired about his health. Pradhan was admitted to the hospital last week following cardiac arrest.

15 hurt

Kendrapara: At least 15 persons, including 6 women, were injured on Sunday near Santhapura-Harijansahi on the Cuttack-Rajnagar road when a bus carrying them overturned. The mishap occurred when the driver lost control of the steering wheel while negotiating a curve, police said. The injured are undergoing treatment Rajnagar sub-divisional hospital.

Oil seized

Kendrapara: Police on Sunday seized 3,000 litres smuggled kerosene oil and arrested a man near Gopalpur village under Mahakalpada police station area. “We intercepted the lorry and found that the kerosene was stolen from public distribution system network, said Pravash Ranjan Pal, inspector,” Mahakalpada police station.


BHUBANESWAR: Six employees of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have been conferred the prestigious Shram awards by the ministry of labour and employment Santosh Kumar Mishra, senior technician in the oxygen plant was awarded the Shram Vir award for 2006. The award comes with a cash prize of Rs 60,000 and a citation.
