Body found

Dhubri, July 17: The body of a boy, identified as Babul Ali, 11, of Nidanpur village, under Lakhipur police station of Goalpara district, was recovered from a wetland last night. A police source said Ali drowned while fishing with his siblings.

One dead

Dhubri: Upen Haloi, 55, a local mediaperson of Nalbari, died on the spot when a speeding Safari car hit him at Patkata Chowk on Friday night.Haloi was associated with various district-level organisations.


Dhubri: Babul Sheikh, a dacoit wanted by Barpeta police, was arrested from the Barpeta Road railway station area on Friday night. Police recovered two pistols and 11 daggers from him.

Timber seized

Dhubri: Two trucks, loaded with timber, were seized by forest officials of Lakhipur range office from Jaleswar-Bamunerbhita area on Friday. Forest officials also seized a timber-sawing machine from the area.

NDFB denial

Guwahati: The NDFB on Saturday denied its involvement in Thursday’s bomb blast at Fancy Bazar, and accused the state machinery of blaming the outfit needlessly.

Six hurt

Shillong (PTI): Six people were injured in a collision between a minitruck and a minibus in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya today. he truck was coming from Assam en route to Mizoram. The driver of the truck is absconding.

Father killed

Imphal (PTI): A drug addict allegedly killed his father, a forest official, by stabbing him, in Churachandpur district of Manipur, official reports said. Thangminlian, 27, a student of law in Bangalore, was angry with Kappau’s refusal to give him money. Kappau was rushed to Churachandpur district hospital where he died. Thang-minlian is in police custody.
