Eight new trains allotted to Tatanagar

Jamshedpur, June 29: Eight new trains will soon stop at Tatanagar railway station.

According to the new railway time-table issued by the Garden Reach headquarters of South Eastern Railway ( SER) today, the new trains would be available for the steel city some time after July 1.

Six new express and two passenger trains will now travel via Tatanagar.

The trains are Kharagpur-Purulia Inter City Express, Howrah-Pune Duronto Express, Chennai-New Jalpaiguri Express, Howrah-Shirdi Sainagar Express, Guwahati-Kurla Karmabhoomi Express and Shalimar-Gorakhpur Express. The two passenger trains are Jhargram-Barabhum MEMU local and Tata-Hatia Passenger.

All the new trains figured in this year’s railway budget. Confirming the additions, station manager of Tatanagar A.K. Agarwal said the dates when the trains would start travelling via Tatanagar would be announced soon.

“The schedule of the new trains will be announced next month,” said Agarwal.

The Chotanagpur Passenger Association welcomed the railway decision to introduce new trains for Tatanagar. “It is a positive development which will benefit the passengers, said V.N. Pande, a senior functionary of the association.

Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) too welcomed the new trains but said the trade body’s expectations had not been fulfilled. “We have been seeking a direct train to Jaipur for the last two years. A train on that route would have helped a sizeable number of people from the steel city and its adjoining areas,” said Suresh Sonthalia, general secretary of SCCI.
