Actor summons

Pratapgarh April 3 (PTI): A local court today asked Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt to appear on April 24 in a case filed against him for his “jadoo ki jhappi and pappi” (magical hug and kiss) remark on Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayavati during last year’s Lok Sabha elections.

The actor had offered the jhappi-pappi to Mayavati while campaigning for a Samajwadi Party candidate. The summons was issued when the chargesheet came up before the court.

Foeticide rap

Chandigarh (PTI): A Haryana court on Saturday sentenced a woman doctor and a couple to three-year jail terms for female foeticide. A health department raid on a hospital had unearthed the crime.

Snake crime

Yavatmal (PTI): Five people including a snake catcher have been arrested for murder after the parents of one of the suspects died of snakebite inside a car in Nagpur. Investigations revealed that their son had plotted the murder along with the snake catcher to gain the couple’s property, police said.

Harass case

Madurai (PTI): Madras High Court on Friday issued notices to the secretary and special officer of a primary co-operative agriculture bank at Radhapuram following a petition by a woman employee who alleged sexual harassment.

Census plea

Chennai (PTI) Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday to take steps to enumerate the transgender community in census 2011. In a letter to Singh, he said there was a considerable number of transgenders in India.

Gangster shot

Mumbai (PTI): A gangster wanted in several criminal cases was gunned down by police in south Mumbai on Saturday, police said.
