Money for Maoist zone

Bankura, Aug. 4: The government has increased the annual allocation for the three districts where it is struggling to contain the Maoists’ clout from Rs 22 crore to Rs 235 crore.

“The funds will be used to carry out development projects concerning irrigation, health, primary education, animal husbandry and agriculture in West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia,” chief secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti said here after the first meeting of a task force for the development of the region.

The panel, comprising heads of eight departments, was formed in June as part of a two-pronged plan to take on the Maoists — using the paramilitary and speeding up development work.
