Two held for kidnap, but girl untraced

Malda, Jan. 15: Police have arrested two youths in connection with the abduction of a Class IX girl on way to coaching classes last Sunday. However, the police are yet to locate the student, a resident of Gajole.

The girl’s father, a farmer, lodged a missing person’s diary with the Gajole police yesterday. A friend of the girl told the police that a youth, Bikash Pal, had boarded a Siliguri-bound bus with her on Sunday.

Following the lead, the police arrested two associates of Bikash, Gopal Mondol and Sanjoy Mondol last night.

The officer-in-charge of Gajole police station, Maksedur Rehman, said 26-year-old Bikash was originally from Bongram in Nadia district but was staying with his grandmother in Gajole where he ran a labour supply business. He added that the youth had managed somehow to lure the girl into his trap.

The police have got little information by interrogating the two youths. However, the police here have contacted their counterparts in Nadia and have come to know that Bikash has a wife and a three-year-old son.

“Bikash used to stay with his grandmother right next door to us and I never thought that he could lure my daughter away,” the father of the girl said. The man suspects that his daughter had been trafficked.
