Sexual assault on train

Siliguri, April 3: Two girls travelling from Siliguri Junction to Nagrakata on the Delhi-New Alipurduar Mahananda Link Express today have alleged that they were raped on board by three youths. The girls said the youths, who boarded the train at Siliguri Junction, were travelling on the same compartment, which had few passengers. They also allegedly looted Rs 700 from the girls.

After the youths got down at Mal Junction and fled, the girls informed other passengers about the incident. They were admitted to Mal Subdivision Hospital but no complaint has been lodged with police yet.


Kidnap probe

Siliguri: A police team from Delhi arrived at Bagdogra Airport on Thursday to make inquiries about a married man who had allegedly kidnapped an 18-year-old girl from Lodhi Road in the capital and landed here two days ago.


Tusker attack

Alipurduar: Somari Mahato (59) was trampled to death by a wild tusker on Wednesday night in Atiabari Tea Estate in the Alipurduar subdivision. The marauding elephant also destroyed five huts.


Forest arrest

Alipurduar: Officials of the Santlabari range on Thursday arrested a person while he was sawing sal logs in the forest. There were six persons with him, but they managed to escape.
