Contest time for yoga experts

Jamshedpur, March 16: The steel city will host a national-level yoga competition in May and also likely to host World Yoga Championship in 2010.

Sarkar Yoga Academy officials recently visited Surat, where the World Yoga Championship was held this year. At the championship, the officials learnt the nitty-gritty and logistics of hosting such a mega event.

Sarkar Yoga Academy founder director Anshu Sarkar said: “It was quite a learning experience for me as I got to know the details of hosting such a big championship. We have planned of hosting the All-India Beauty Yoga Contest in May and hope of hosting the international event in Jamshedpur in 2010.”

He further added that there are quite a few yoga enthusiasts in different countries who have shown keen interest in participating in such a yoga competition. The Sarkar Yoga Academy has also trained quite a few of these enthusiasts.

The academy would host the third All India Yoga Beauty and Yoga talent contest from May 25-26.

Addressing reporters today, Sarkar said that there would be around 600 participants from 20 states across the country who would take part in the All-India Beauty Contest. The competition would be categorised under seven age groups. Organising officials said there would be four titles in the competition — yoga princess, yoga queen, yoga prince and yoga king.

The organisers have come out with a unique prize for the winners of the titles. Apart from gold-plated crowns, each winner would win a five-day free trip to Gangtok.

“We wanted to make the winning the title a memorable one so apart from gold-plated crowns, we are arranging for this free trip to Gangtok,” said Sarkar.
