Miandad flayed

Karachi: Pakistan chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed has accused Javed Miandad of pressurising him to include Faisal Iqbal, nephew of the former captain, for the tour of India.

Salahuddin’s verbal volley came after Miandad attacked him and the selection committee’s policies on a television programme and said it had led to the Test and one-day losses to South Africa at home.

Miandad also questioned the logic behind the decisions and called for a change in selection policies.

The former Pakistan captain, however, denied ever pushing Faisal’s case but sources in the board confirmed Salahuddin had received calls on Faisal’s exclusion.

“Faisal even said he was willing to open the innings if given a chance,” a source said.

Minadad said he had every right to question the chief selector as he was worried about the future of Pakistan cricket.

“I have no axe to grind… I have a right to my opinion and I still believe the selectors could have picked a more balanced outfit for the India tour,” he said
