2 more die in bus accident

Ranchi, March 28: Two more persons on election duty who were injured in yesterday’s Garhwa bus accident have died, taking the toll to 16.

Sources in Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where the two were admitted, said Alimuddin Ansari died around 10 pm and Kameshwar Baitha died about 12.15.

“The duo had suffered severe head injuries and were in deep coma when they were brought to the hospital,” said a doctor. “No operation was possible as they had innumerable blood clots in their brains.”

The two were part of a 36-member team on election duty travelling from Ramana block to the district headquarters at Garhwa in a bus yesterday. The vehicle had fallen off a dilapidated bridge and at least three were admitted to RIMS in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Garhwa district administration this morning dispatched another batch of personnel on election duty.

“The polling personnel have reached their destination,” said the Garhwa deputy commissioner, Amitabh Kaushal.
