Karat in China

Beijing, July 12 (PTI): CPM general secretary Prakash Karat has arrived here on an eight-day tour of China for talks on party-to-party ties and Sino-Indian relations.

Karat (in picture above), accompanied by CPM central committee member and former MP Subhashini Ali, is a guest of the international department of the Communist Party of China, sources said.

He has already met scholars at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and visited the “party school” of the Communist Party.

He will hold talks tomorrow with Cai Wu, the minister in the international department of the Communist Party, as well as “a senior Chinese leader” whom sources did not name.

This is Karat’s first foreign visit as CPM chief. He will also visit east China’s Shandong province and Shanghai.
