Rupesh eyes double

New Delhi: G.K. Shweta and V. Poojashree clinched the girls doubles title at the ITF junior tennis event in Islamabad on Friday.

Shweta and Poojashree won the title by defeating Thailand’s Punjaporn Ditthim and Punchanoka Khunpitak 6-4, 6-1 in the final.

In the boys’ section, Rupesh Roy entered the singles final, blanking out compatriot Lalit Man 6-0, 6-0 in the semi-finals, according to information received here. In the title-clash, Rupesh now will face home favourite Shahzad Khan, who defeated the other Indian challenge, Sumit Prakash Gupta, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

Rupesh and Sumit also reached the doubles final with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory against the Pakistani combination of Shahzad and Wasif Cheema.

Vivek Shokeen and Sri Lanka’s Nishindaran Sivendaran defeated Peerakit Siributwong of Thailand and Kaushik Das 6-3, 6-3 in the other semi-final.

Sania lost to Tang Phong of Thailand 6-2, 3-6, 2-6 to end the Indian challenge, according to information reaching here.
