New Delhi, Sept. 23: The British Chief of Defence Staff, General Sir Michael Walker, is expected to visit New Delhi from tomorrow for three days, reports our special correspondent.
Walker’s visit takes place in the afterglow of the Cabinet Committee on Security’s clearance to buy 66 British Aerospace advanced jet trainers in one of the biggest defence deals estimated to cost Rs 8,000 crore.
The British are also understood to have been sounding the Indian defence establishment on its requirement for an aircraft carrier. India is currently in talks with Russia for the aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov.
Walker will attend an airshow at an airbase near Delhi where a squadron of Hawks will give a demonstration of the aircraft’s capabilities.
