New Delhi, July 24 (PTI): The good monsoon rainfall has led to good sowing of major kharif crops, including rice, maize and soyabean, an official statement said here today.
The rainfall so far has adequately covered most parts and facilitated normal to good sowing of major kharif crops, it said.
The latest update of the crop weather group of the agriculture ministry showed that in 28.1 per cent of the normal area covered rice has been sown as against 26.4 per cent area last year.
Similarly, percentage of normal area covered for soyabean rose to 86.1 per cent as against 73.1 per cent last year. The normal area for maize cultivation soared to 79.8 per cent from 59.9.
With the help of normal to excess rain in most parts of the country, recharging of reservoirs has begun, it added. For the week ending July 18, water in 70 major reservoirs showed an increase of three per cent over the previous week’s level.
