Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar is certain to play in the Irani Trophy match between Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai and the Rest of India in Chennai from September 18 to 22.
Mumbai Cricket Association joint-secretary Prof. Ratnakar Shetty said on Friday that he had spoken to Tendulkar, Ajit Agarkar and paceman Avishkar Salvi and that the three had confirmed their availability. He said they wanted to play in a five-day match before taking on New Zealand at home in a two-match Test series.
Sourav Ganguly, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra and Anil Kumble are also eager to play the Irani Trophy.
Bengal open against Rajasthan
A Staff Reporter in Calcutta adds: Bengal will open their Ranji Trophy engagements in Jaipur on November 7 against Rajasthan.
Eight teams in group A and seven in group B will vie for top honours in the Elite division due to start on November 7. Meanwhile, some of the matches of the Deodhar Trophy will take place in the city. East Zone will host the meet from January 15 to 31.
The inter-state limited-overs one-day meet (with one state from each zone) will also take place in East Zone from February 5 to 11.
The Duleep Trophy will be held at different venues in North Zone from February 14 to March 9. The Challenger Trophy (from September 10-14) will be held in Bangalore.
