London, June 1 (PTI): Piqued by a spate of embarrassing revelations about her, British actress Liz Hurley, lover of Indian businessman Arun Nayar, is planning to buy a stake in a 10-seater jet so she can fly as she wants without being “spied on”.
According to a report in The Mail on Sunday, the 36-year-old actress is said to be incensed after a string of disclosures, including claims that she engaged in heavy petting under her boyfriend’s blankets in first class when she travelled recently from New York to London on British Airways.
She will pay £200,000 to join a Flexitime scheme, entitling her to 25 hours of flight time aboard a £17 million French-built Falcon 2000. Mostly, she will be able to fly whenever she chooses, unless it is short notice and a plane is not available from the pool. Then, she might find herself sharing.
By going private, Hurley will join a number of A-list stars, including singer Justin Timberlake, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lopez, who use the Marquis jets scheme.
All food and drink on board are customised to the client’s taste — Lopez even arranges to have takeaway pizzas on board.
Hurley, who complains that she is always recognised, even in first class, had been considering a private jet share since she started dating Nayar.
A few months ago she enjoyed a test flight in a Falcon, which boats a sumptuous interior with cream carpets and leather seats. It can easily handle the eight-hour flight from London to Mumbai, where Nayar’s family lives.
Quoting a source close to Hurley, the report said: “Liz absolutely loved the jet. It’s a wonderful way to travel and she was very impressed. She flies a lot with her son, Damian, and plans to travel more frequently between London and Mumbai.
“But she is getting upset at being spied on whenever she travels and wants more privacy and comfort. This will give her total privacy because customers can decide whether or not they want to be accompanied on the flight.”
The Mail on Sunday reported last month how the “heavy petting” incident upset fellow first-class travellers on the flight from New York and she was asked by cabin staff to return to her seat.
It will also avoid any more check-in tantrums.
Hurley was criticised after a first-class passenger was downgraded so Nayar could sit with her when they flew back from a Barbados holiday last month.
And she flew into a rage the week before when staff at the British Airways check-in refused to upgrade Nayar to first-class. She reportedly yelled: “Do you know who I am' I bloody demand that he is upgraded. Don’t you know he’s a millionaire'”
The actress — who recently flew to the south of France in a private jet with Nayar on another holiday — plans to marry the 37-year-old computer entrepreneur once he has divorced his current wife Valentina Pedroni.
Hurley, who is said to be “desperate” to walk down the aisle, has told friends she wants to divide her time between India and England when they are married, the report said. Earlier this year, she met Nayar’s family and was said to have looked at a number of properties in Mumbai.
