Islamabad, May 13 (AP): Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has acknowledged that he must choose between being the head of the military and head of state, but the timing is up to him — and his decision could be years away — a government minister said today.
Hardline Islamic Opposition politicians, who have a powerful voice in parliament, have paralysed the legislature in a bid to force Musharraf’s hand on this issue. “President Musharraf has said that he knows two officers cannot be held at the same time, and he will leave, but the timing is up to him. He has five years,” information minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said.
Musharraf was made President for five years in a referendum held last year.
