Balarampur (Purulia), May 8: It was another election rally, and not quite.
Four days before rural Bengal goes to poll, this bustling town 35 km south of Purulia town on the Ranchi-Tata road saw a public meeting where a Left Front ally was asking for votes to defeat not the Trinamul Congress, the BJP or the Congress, but the CPM.
“We are sorry to say the concept of a Left Front has not developed in Bengal, especially at the panchayat level,” said Bloc general secretary Debabrata Biswas. “It is time to end this single-party rule of the CPM.”
As allegations of the CPM’s efforts to foil today’s rally poured in, the Bloc leader said: “We had thought the front committee would act as a safety valve in village-level governance. But that did not happen.”
