Inflation rate dips to 6.16%
New Delhi, May 4: Heavy to moderate price declines in diesel, petrol and food articles, including vegetables and fruits, pushed down the inflation rate marginally to 6.16 per cent for the week ended April 19 from 6.47 per cent in the previous week. The rise in prices of essential commodities as a result of the truck strike was more than offset by the fall in prices of mass-consumption primary articles. The wholesale price index stood at 1.37 per cent in the same period last year.
New Delhi, May 4: MobileFirst, an alliance of BPL Mobile, Escotel, RPG Cellular and Spice, today announced new outgoing rates which are 20 to 30 per cent cheaper for long-distance calls from mobile phones, and two new post-paid tariff plans. The new rates are effective from May 1. Meanwhile, Cellular Operators Association of India said there has been a 10 per cent surge in incoming calls since they were made free from May 1.
New Delhi, May 4: The economy will grow by 5.5-5.7 per cent this fiscal compared with an estimated 4.4 per cent in 2002-03. The rise will be fuelled by an upswing in agriculture, an Icra report said.
Jamshedpur, May 4: Tisco has started supplying automotive-grade steel to Maruti on a trial basis and expects to commence full-fledged supply within the next one year after making necessary changes in production processes, said deputy managing director T. Mukherjee.
New Delhi, May 4: The government is believed to have rejected Mars Incís proposal to extend its test-marketing period to five years since it has not set up a manufacturing base here. This was one of the conditions it had agreed to when it was alllowed into the country.
