Calcutta: City-based coach Sayandeb Chakraborty has been hired by the Sri Lankan tennis federation as its regional head coach.
Sayandeb, a Level 2 ITF coach, will oversee the junior development programme of boys and girls in the age-group of 12-16. The programme, spread across five regions, is sponsored by the ITF. Sayandeb, who joined work Thursday, is based in Colombo.
He was in charge of the victorious India under-16 team at the south-east Asian championship in Dhaka and also coached the Bengal squads in the last two National Games (Chandigarh and Hyderabad), but this is the most prestigious assignment till date.
Sayandeb, who was the principal contender to look after the junior programme in the newly-established BTA complex, will be paid $1,000 besides other perks. He has signed a one-year contract.
