New Delhi, April 15 (PTI): For the first time, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) will announce the long-range forecast of the southwest monsoon rainfall much in advance. The forecast will be announced tomorrow, at least 40 days ahead of the normal date of May 25.
IMD says this has become possible as a result of the adoption of new models of monsoon forecast.
The long range monsoon forecast last year had gone against predictions because of a variety of factors, including global warming.
IMD director-general R.R. Kelkar is likely to divulge details of the new models tomorrow.
