Ahmedabad, April 9: Gujarat Governor S.S. Bhandari has signed the controversial Freedom of Religion Bill, 2003, without recommending any change, reports our correspondent.
Government spokesman I.K. Jadeja today told reporters after the weekly Cabinet meeting that the government “has received the Bill yesterday as it was sent on March 26’’. The government will soon frame the rules under the Bill and publish it in Gazette.
The controversial Bill was one of the seven Bills passed by the Gujarat Assembly on March 26. Jadeja, who had earlier feigned ignorance about the delay on the part of the Governor in signing the Bill, today claimed that “the Governor had delayed to satisfy himself on legal aspect’’.
