Mumbai: As many as 30 Grandmasters including world No. 21 Rustam Kasim Dzhanov of Uzbekistan will be seen in action in the Commonwealth chess championship in Mumbai from April 20-27.
Maharashtra Chess Association (MCA) chairman Ravindra Dongre said the other GMs who have confirmed for the Rs. 5 lakh prize money meet are Tahir Vakhodov, Dzhumaev Marat, Yuldashev Safin (all Uzbekistan), Sheriasdanov and Alexander Fominyh (both Russia), R. Pogorelov of Spain, Peter Szekely of Hungary, Igor Rausis, Zia-ur-Rahaman and Niaz Murshed (all Bangladesh).
The Indian challenge will be spearheaded by Koneru Humpy. The other Indians in the fray are K. Sasikiran, Abhijit Kunte, P. Harikrishna, Dibyendu Barua, Surya Sekhar Ganguly, Pravin Thipsay and WGM Vijayalakshmi.
