Mankad, Kannan in second round

Calcutta: Fifth seed Harsh Mankad of India defeated compatriot Vinod Sridhar 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to move into the second round of the Exide ITF menís Futureís tennis tournament Tuesday at BTA Complex Tuesday.

In a major upset, wildcard Kamala Kannan of India beat fourth seed Jakub Hasek of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-1.

Local challenge Vinod Kumar Sewa was taught a lesson in how tough it gets at this level, losing 4-6, 3-6 to Daniel Lesske of Germany.

Other Indians to lose were Ajay Ramaswami, Jaco T. Matthew, Vishal Uppal and Manoj Mahadevan.

Uppal lost 7-6, 1-6, 1-6 to Pakistanís Aisam Qureshi.
