February 1 at Sisir Mancha; 6 pm: Shinjan Nrityalaya presents a solo Odissi dance recital by Shreelina Ghosh, disciple of Aloka Kanungo. Also, Odissi group recital and dance drama (directed by Bolaka Das). February 2 at Madhusudan Mancha; 10 am: Dance-drama Kurani, written by Kshitish Roy and composed by Jyotirindra Nath Maitra will be presented along with Jyotirindra Nath Maitra’s immortal opera, Nabajibaner Gaan. The participants include Gita Ghatak, Chandrabali Rudra, Suranjana Basu and Debashish Roy Chowdhury and members of Punascha, the alumni association of Kamala Girls’ School.


January 31 at Srijan Rooftop, 176, Sarat Bose Road; 6 pm - 8 pm: In its monthly tribute to the Rock legends of the Sixties, Music from Distant Shores, Srijan presents Deep Purple by Malavika Desai. Also, live performances by Xerexes.

February 1 at Meghnad Saha Auditorium, University of Calcutta; 11 am - 4.30 pm: National seminar on Recent Trend in Polymers and Petrochemicals — an Indian Scenario. Speakers include: Dr Shovon Ghosh, Dr T. Mukherjee, Dr Subrata Ganguly, Dr G. Mukherjee and Dr M.S. Banerjee.

January 30 at Srijan, 176, Sarat Bose Road; 5.30 pm: A host of poets will pay tribute to three recently departed poets — Annada Shankar Ray, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Manjush Dasgupta. This will be followed by a Poetry Adda session.


January 30 at Sarala Roy Memorial Community Hall; 5.30 pm: Cine Central, Calcutta screens Memories of Underdevelopment, a Cuban feature film directed by Thomas Gtierrez Alea.
