Kathmandu, Jan. 7 (AFP): Nepal’s army and armed police today launched a massive hunt for 200 schoolchildren aged between 12 and 15 years who have been abducted from several schools in western Nepal, army sources said.
Police have confirmed the rebels kidnapped 150 students in the Bajura district, 435 km from Kathmandu, on Friday.
An army officer, who did not want to be named, said they had received reports of the abductions of 60 other children in Doti, 390 km northwest and Kailali, 290 km west of the capital.
“We have received fresh reports on the abduction of 60 students of middle and higher secondary schools boys and girls from Doti and Kailali in the last couple of days,” the officer said.
“We have launched a massive search for the abducted students to rescue them from Maoists.”
