Bangalore, Dec. 16 (PTI): The Karnataka government today decided to hold a judicial probe into the killing of Janata Dal (United) leader H. Nagappa in forest brigand Veerappan’s custody.
The decision, taken at a meeting of the Karnataka Cabinet, comes after the S.M. Krishna government was criticised by Opposition parties and Nagappa’s family on the handling of the issue and just a week ahead of the state legislature session. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been blaming each other for Nagappa’s murder.
Briefing reporters today, Karnataka information minister Kagodu Thimappa said the probe will be conducted either by a retired or a sitting high court judge and the terms of reference will be drafted soon.
